I’m a philistine when it comes to audiophile equipment, so I didn’t discern any noticable difference in audio quality. However, the description said it can connect to more than one audio source which the XM3 can’t. ANC is just as good as the XM3s. Perfect for airplanes.

Wow, these headphones are a game-changer! Noise cancellation is out of this world – subway? What subway? My music never sounded so good. 5 stars!

I’m a first time over the ear headphone owner, and man do I love these so far. The sound quality, noise cancellation, battery life, and comfortability are all excellent. I wear these to the gym and they sound great and fit snug, as long as you’re not whipping your head around. My only complaint is the volume control on the side of the headphones. It can be a little finicky, but it’s not a huge issue at all, as you can just easily adjust on your phone. I’m sure I’ll get used to it too.Overall, highly, HIGHLY recommend. These are a phenomenal pair of headphones for the price.

Great sound for BT, and even better when wired. Not as comfortable as some due to a strong headband spring. Great noise cancellation.

I love these headphones. The noise cancelation is amazing and when I’m traveling they keep me in my own world at the airport.

The headphones are great. I use them all the time.

battery life is crazy, had them for around two months using them randomly and i’ve only charged twice. the app you use to control the headphones equalizer is well designed and easy to figure out. with the equalizer, you can have it create insane bass, boost vocals, whatever you want them to do. there’s presents for certain things, like bass booster or treble booster. alternatively, you can find and create your own custom equalizer to better optimize your experience. the design is sleek and 100% and eye pleaser. the noise cancellation is absolutely astonishing. if you’re looking for good headphones for the gym, flights, or just everyday use, these are the way to go.

    Great and comfortable

Noise canceling is great, not as good as apple but better than my AKG and Harmon Kardon. The sound quality is good too. They do feel kind of cheap in quality and I’m worried they won’t last. My HK’s feel like they are worth twice as much as the Sony and they sound quality is great. Had the HK had as good noise cancellation I would not have been looking to buy these Sony headphones but overall I’m glad I did since I got them on AP day.

Watched several reviews. I’ve had Bose in the past and personally I like these more than Bose. Great sound quality and noise cancellation!!

Best headphones I’ve had to date. They pair perfectly with all of my Apple devices and I primarily use them for anime through my Apple TV. The battery life is great and lasts multiple days even with I’m binging 8 hours a day. They do give me a bit of a headache so I deducted one star for fit comfort. The top band creates a pressure point that I can’t get rid of no matter how I adjust them. The ears can start to create pressure after long wearing periods as well. The design is nice and sleek though, love the all black look.I hope they go back to this style for the Mx6’s since the 5’s seem like a downgrade.

Already got the XM5, but this one is just as good. I got it for around $140, which is an unbeatable deal considering what you get. If you’re looking for great sound and NCE without breaking the bank, this is the one to go for

    A great product. Good quality

I got this product to replace my wired V-Moda Crossfades. These things have a wonderful rich sound, plenty of bass, and I love them.

This is my 2nd Sony headphone. The first one is over 8 years old and still running, which didn’t give me any reason to get a new (not sure if it’s a good news or bad news. LOL). However, with prime day, I just can’t pass this one up with the price it was offering. This headphone sounds great for my personal use. The 3.5mm jack is big plus since I sometime need to use it on some legacy devices.

These are better than Bose, lighter more sound surprising

I recently purchased the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones, and overall, I’m quite impressed. These live up to what I would expect from Sony’s premier sound lineup. The noise cancellation is top-notch; it effectively blocks out background sounds, making the listening experience incredibly immersive. Whether I’m in a noisy café or commuting, the headphones create a peaceful environment. The sound quality is exceptional as well, delivering rich bass, clear mids, and detailed highs. They’re comfortable for extended wear, and the battery life is impressive, easily lasting for long listening sessions. All in all, a fantastic choice for audiophiles and frequent travelers alike!

These were by far the very best noise cancelling headphones out there imho. Superior in all categories. Noise cancelling, comfort, sound quality, ease of use, customization via the mobile app. All fantastic.I wear mine all night long. Both to fall asleep listening to whatever, and to noise cancel my wife’s snoring. So it was not surprising to me after years of ownership that the right swivel broke. Not a problem. There’s a guy on YouTube that sells both left and right swivel repair kits, and has a very detailed video showing exactly how to fix it. Highly recommended if that happens to yours. While searching for a swivel fix, I happened across some videos about squealing. Mine were not doing that. I thought, “You poor bastids. That’s a bummer.” Wouldn’t you know it, about 1 month later, mine started squealing. It’s the worst when first powered on. No matter what is set in the app, when powered on, noise cancelling is full on. It starts as a tinny sound in the right ear, and invariably gets worse, until it makes an intolerably loud squealing sound that will not go away at first. Move the right cup off of my ear, and it stops. Back on the ear, and full sqeal again. Turning off noise cancelling makes it stop. That’s a bit inconvenient, because I connect to other devices. You have to connect to the phone, to run the app, to turn off noise cancelling. For mine, within about 30 minutes I can turn noise cancelling back on, and no squeal. They then act and sound like brand new, and stay that way no matter what Bluetooth device I connect to until powered down and up again. From what I’ve read, for those experiencing it, the phenomenon acts differently for different users. There is a microphone in the right ear cup that provides the noise cancelling capability. I’ve seen YouTube videos of people attempting to replace the microphone. But none with success that I’ve found. So, that is my take on the down side to them from my years of ownership. I still love them though, even with that annoyance. I would be willing to accept more weight, if it made the battery last longer between charges. But other than that, the noise cancelling (when working correctly), the sound quality, and wearing comfort are fantastic.

Wonderful sound quality, beautiful device. Outstanding noise cancelation. However, to control the headphones you have to download the mobil app. The legal conditions for the app you must agree to give up all your privacy and give Sony the right to use and sell your privacy data to anyone. The legal description goes on and on for25-30 pages and unless you accept all you would be unable to use or enjoy your device.I found that so upsetting that decided to return the item instead.

    Great headphones. Love it!

This is my second purchase of these sony headphones. My husband has one and uses it while he mows. I bought one for my son for his birthday and he loves them. Noise cancelling really works.

  32. Anonymous (verified owner)

The noise cancellation is so crazy because my family had a party and was singing karaoke and just turning on the headphones cancelled all the noise. The headphones are a little big for my head but it doesn’t hurt at all after long wear usage.

Thees are the best headphones I have ever used

  34. Anonymous (verified owner)

These are great. Sound quality compared to Skull candy is unmatched. Completely different experience. The app is that bad either. It let’s you adjust the EQ and connect to two different devices simultaneously.

  35. Anonymous (verified owner)

These headphones are the best headphones I have ever used. They are so high tech and the audio sounds amazing. Definitely great for traveling and I can’t wait to use them when I’m working out!

  36. Anonymous (verified owner)

Pretty Good Quality for its price, the ear muffs tend to get wrinkly pretty quick, but it is not a problem since they are really comfortable. Overall great headphones for price.

Having owned a few different Sony headphones over the past 35 years I finally jumped on these after tracking for a few years waiting on price is to good to pass on. My first Sony headphones were the MDR-V6 wired. These are still the best in the Sony line of headphones IMHO. Clean with no attenuation. The XM4 wireless is a definite plus. I have been able to connect to a laptop with very little effort. I am still trying to understand the connection between Sound connect and normal playing with devices. I believe they are used to keep the XM4 updated? Also exploring the Sony 360 app. Not quite sure of the purpose or how to optomize. One discovery is when I moved out of the range. Although I could hear audio once I came back into range. However, several audio drop outs. Once I rebooted the headphones the dropouts cleared. Although noise canceling is good, I could still hear the vacuum cleaner when using it. Like what I have listened to so far.

Good sound quality, ANC is truly fantastic. Very comfortable as well.

I had a tiny pair of (what were a year ago) $70 bluetooth ear buds. They have the best value of sound quality+noise cancellation / cost that I’ve ever seen. They have a nice set of commands like these headphones as well. 1 or 2 or 3 taps on either has a command. They had different response for music vs calls as well.I would say Sony barely loses to them on sound quality. But the main point, is that the Sony headphones are almost the best experience I’ve had. If this was all I was basing this review on, I’d give them 3 stars, just because the price is out of sync with the quality. However, there’s also the experience. If you want a pair of headphones that requires less thought? These are the best. I plug them in once or twice a week for an hour, otherwise? it’s one piece of equipment. No hunting down when I put an earbud. No searching pockets. No thinking about the battery. It’s terribly lightweight, and I barely notice when it’s on my head. As an introvert, people don’t walk up to me at work with questions when you head over-head headphones on, they know you’re busy, whereas earbuds are misleading on that front.Because of this combination, I’d probably give these headphones a 4-5 stars. It’s a real tossup. The price definitely holds me back, but the longer time goes on, I forget about the price, obviously.I’m a big fan of minimalist, monochrome styling. I have a backpack with no decor, most of my clothes are single-color. I just want my life to be more simple, so for 99% of use, I use these now over the earbuds, even though those are more performant on noise cancellation.

Pros: These are some of the best headphones I have ever had. Fit super comfortable not heavy and can last like 3 days without a charge. The noise cancelling is very nice and is good enough were I won’t hear anything but I will still hear cars and trains which is nice for safety. Ambient sound works very nice although I rarely use the talking feature as it’s just easier to pause the music.Cons: I got these like 8 months ago and just now noticed that there is a bit of noise leakage. I’m still trying to figure it out if it’s just cause I have loud music playing or it just has no protection?Overall: Either way I HIGHLY recommend these. While the price is a bit steep it vary much makes it up in comfort and sound quality

I bought one for me and one for my aunty! There are perfect!

Never felt like buying another set of expensive headphones ever since I retired my old 2nd gen Beats Studio headphones but I was recommended these by a friend and I can definitely say they are a wonderful set of headphones. The noise canceling is no joke, the sounds of my roommates cooking up a storm are completely silenced as I sit in the living room. There is a Sony app it recommends you to download and its main purpose is to fine-tune how much noise cancellation you want and bass.

I’m a frequent traveller and use this product with all my travels. Initially I was torn between this device and the popular Bose brand. I purchase this one and I so far like it. I then purchased the Bose for my wife. Both devices work well – with similar noise cancelling effect on the airplane – I couldn’t tell the difference. This model has a bit more functions compared to Bose, but at the same time it’s slightly confusing on the buttons than the Bose. You cannot go wrong with either.

Amazing sound, the earmuffs are comfy, noise canceling is excellent.

Comfortable and excellent sound. I love the noise cancellation!! Very happy.

What a great headphones. They are amazing!!! However, it’s very disappointing Sony couldn’t pony up for a charging cord of 12” to allow for over the counter charging at airports or at home for that matter. The charging cord provided is unacceptable and significantly to short for proper charging at home or abroad. Very disappointing for a product that’s really great and expensive to be short changed by this and diminished its value.Sony, I’d love to get a longer power cord as I’m sure others would.I’ll be reaching out directly to Sony as well.Craig B

These are awesome headphones. Turn off Equalizer in settings and purchase and use Poweramp Equalizer! Search for “how to get Poweramp Equalizer to work with any app” “You” can get it to work with all players.

They are surprisingly very comfortable to wear for a long time. The noise cancelling is very good and it even adapts to movement. The blue color is very nice and its dark so if your worried about staining you won’t really see it. They’re decently heavy and they feel sturdy. I don’t think i would have gotten them for full price buy when they’re on sale they’re definitely worth it

Bought these over a year ago and the battery life and sound is still amazing

I had the bose headphones for a year until they literally fell apart. I got the XM4 during Prime Day so $200 is a good price.Navy blue is dark enough that it was pointless for me to pay more for black. Looks nice and isn’t so dark. Much better imo.Does kinda hurt my ears after all day use but that’s kinda expected and way better than the bose in comparison! My only issue currently is accidentally turning off the headphones when laying down OR bumping the touch pad and turning off sound.Overall: very satisfied but if I paid 400, maybe not so much.
